Why using daily rhythm charts?

In this paper I briefly write about daily schedule charts, what is its benefits and for which children and which situations can daily rhythm charts be used.

Daily rhythm charts come in all shapes and with different goals. The word circadian rhythm chart seems to say that the chart should apply for a whole day. In practice, I use them for a daily routine activity, an event, a day or to split a week into manageable parts.

Examples of circadian rhythm cards are a schedule of the week or on a chart showing the steps of the toilet ritual or the steps of handwashing. It depends on what your child wants to learn or what you want your child to learn.

It is important to consider how much information and independence the child can handle. It is not true that the more daily schedule charts you use , the better!

Why are maps useful for the daily routine? Daily rhythm charts visualizes what is expected of children. Because the pictograms are easy to see and understand by themselves.

Which children do benefit the most of daily rhythm charts? Daily rhythm charts have an added value especially for children who are visually oriented or not (yet) able to read. A circadian rhythm chart supports children who have difficulties to remember rules and rhythms of the day. With a the circadian rhythm chart, they know what will happen and what is expected of them.

For educators, it is useful to use circadian rhythm charts because you can visualize rules and the daily schedule for the whole class, so you don’t need to tell every time what you are going to do. Daily schedule charts provide clarity and consistency for children.

The daily routine situations in which cards are most suitable, are situations where parents often grumble, new events or activities that have to be learned. Visualization of rules that apply to a group of children, can also be done with circadian rhythm charts.
